Prov. 3:11 & 12, “My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, 12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.”

Dear brothers and sisters,

Loving greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Today let us meditate about the importance of accepting the chastisement of God (discipline). The bible says God disciplines only whose whom He loves as in Prov. 3:12.  When a father loves his children he will definitely try to correct the children whenever they commit any mistake. Our God is also correcting us and chastise us with his love to make us to live as per His commandments so that at the end we can have the privilege to enter into the kingdom of God.

·        first of all, God corrects us because of His love as in Heb 12:5 & 6, “And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: "My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves”

·        Secondly, God corrects us when He consider us as His children as in Heb 12:6, “…and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son."

What to do now when we go through these corrections?

1.     We must happily endure these chastisements very happily from the hand of God, since God is leading only His children in His righteous path as in Heb 12:7 & 8, “Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons.”

2.     If we can understand the corrections what we had in the hands of our earthly father who much more we should cope up with these corrections from the hand of God or our spiritual father as in Heb12:9, “Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live!  The earthly fathers corrects there children as long as they have some hope in them but God corrects us until we part take in His holiness as in Heb 12:10, “Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.”

3.     The bible clearly says no correction will be very pleasant in our lives when it is given to us. So, we must patiently bear with them with hope as in Heb 12:11, “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

4.     We must praise God in all circumstances of our life as in Heb 12:12, “Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms.” - [Give thanks at all times and in all circumstances as in I Thes 5:18.]

5.     We must pray more and come closer to God when He corrects us as in Heb 12:12, “…and strengthen your weak knees.”

  1. We must be willing to get corrected like David as in Psa 141:5, “Let a righteous man strike me--it is a kindness; let him rebuke me--it is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it.”
  2. We have to surrender to the will of God and have faith on God that He does every thing for Good. Rom 8:28.

May the Lord help each one of us to have a confidence and trust on the love of God and patiently let us endure all the corrections we receive from Him. Remember this we are a blessed person if God corrects us as in Job 5:17, “Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.”  Amen.
