Gen 3:6, “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”

Dear brothers and sisters,

Loving New Year 2007 greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Today let us meditate about the perils of living a life as per our own ways, without any discipline or self-control. Right from the first parents whom God has created in the beginning of the world this problem exists. There are two verses for us to know today since they are for life and death so it is very important for us. When we observe discipline we are for life as in Prov. 10:17, ‘He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.”  But if we walk as per our own understanding and desire we are for death as in Prov 14:12, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.”  Unless we die to our self will and desires we cannot follow the lord Jesus Christ.  Let us examine this verse now to know how sin can enter into our life?  As we see in Gen 3:6:

1.      “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food – [many times Satan use eye, ears, and feelings to tempt us to sin.  Here eve was constantly seeing this fruit and slowly getting attracted to this fruit finally Satan using her weakness and make her fall in sin.

2.      And the fruit of the tree was pleasing to the eye, - [if we keep walking in the road what pleases us then ultimately we will reach the death as in Pro.14:12.

3.      And the fruit of the tree was also desirable for gaining wisdom, - [our desires cannot be the will of God so we have to crucify the desires to own Jesus Christ as in Gal 5:24.]

4.      She took some and ate it. – [she exercised her own self will and freedom to commit sin and she not even consulted any one including her own husband to eat the fruit.]

5.      She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, - [after taking the fruit against the will of god she with determination made her husband also ate the fruit so that he can also sin in the same manner.]

6.      And he ate it. – [he chose to please his wife more than the lord who gave the command not to eat that fruit.]

7.      After wards together they try to conceal the sin and try to seek their own remedies rather than coming to God almighty as in Gen 3:7 & 8, “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.”

May the Lord help each one of us to keep the commandments of God and have some discipline in life because the self-control is the fruit of the Holy Spirit as it is said in Gal. 5: 23. When we have this we will not fall into sin. Because God is not tempting us to sin as in James 1:13 to 15, “When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.  Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”

May in this New Year God bless you and remove all the lusts and desires of the flesh and make us to walk as per the leading of the Holy Spirit and the word of God on 2nd January 2007.  Amen

Further Bible Study

Prov 3:6  in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Prov 5:21  For a man's ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all his paths.

Prov 16:2  All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD.

Prov 16:7  When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.

Decision To Make

Psa 2:12  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Things To Thank God

Mat 1:23  "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" --which means, "God with us."

Today's Prayer

1 The unprecedented harvest being won in Africa, Asia and Latin America Christianity has slightly declined as a percentage of the world’s population

2 The expansion of Evangelicals since 1960. They numbered 84.5 million (2.8%) in 1960, but in 2000 they were 420 million (6.9%)

3 The spread of Pentecostalism has been astonishing

4 The huge impact of the Charismatic movement on almost every denomination and megabloc

5 The strength and growth of the Church in lands that have, or have had, severe persecution

6 The manifest failure of human ideologies, which became more obvious in the 1980s and ‘90s

a) The collapse of Communism as a global threat, and the bankruptcy of atheism has caused significant turning to Christ in answer to prayer

b) Fundamentalist Islam has gained in political power and its ability to cause havoc in the world through subversion and sometimes terrorism, but has lost credibility in the minds of many Muslims

c) The Buddhist world has long proved a tough challenge with few major breakthroughs, but the rising tide of interest and concern for the Buddhist heartlands of Tibet and Mongolia is bearing fruit

7 The globalization of the world missions movement

a) The USA still remains the largest foreign missionary-sending nation, but South Korea has replaced the UK as the second

b) India’s missionary movement has grown enormously even as the foreign component has dwindled

8 The AD2000 and Beyond Movement launched in 1989 proved to be the most global, focused movement for world evangelization that there ever has been

a) The 10/40 Window focus was brilliantly successful

b) A great increase in research into the world’s peoples — at a global level in producing the Joshua Project List (JPL) of unreached peoples

c) The Joshua Project I was launched in 1995 to facilitate strategic planning, coordinated research and cooperative church planting during the remaining years of the 20th Century

d) A Church for every people — how far was the goal achieved

e) The gospel for every person. The Mark 16:15 version of the Great Commission exhorts preaching the gospel to every person

The sobering fact is that even with all this activity, probably 15-25% of the world’s population has not really heard the gospel in such a way as to respond to the offer of eternal salvation in Jesus Christ
